Infrared port for computer
Option One

IrDA (Infra red Data Assotiation) protocol allows you to connect to peripheral devices without cables using infrared radiation. IrDA port allows communication at a short distance point-to-point. IrDA interface uses a narrow infrared range (850-900 nm) with low power consumption that allows you to create a low-cost hardware and does not require FCC certification (Federal Communications Commission). IrDA port based on the architecture of the communication COM -port PC which uses a universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter) and operates at a data rate 2400-115200 bps, providing a stable half-duplex communication.
Connects IR -port directly to the motherboard, most of the pinout on the board corresponds to the scheme and is described in the documentation on board, in case of no coincidence conclusions are easy to rearrange. After installation, you must include the BIOS support for infrared port. ( "Chipset Features Setup" -> "UART2 Use Infrared" -> "Enabled"). If your operating system is Windows 9X, it will install the necessary drivers to work.
Option two

Driving could not be easier: take IR -transiver (transceiver) and unsolder it in accordance with the standard inclusion of the scheme shown in the specification. Such chips produced many well-known foreign companies. To use the phone fit any, that will be able to buy. Here is a list of transceivers that I know of: MAX 3120, HSDL 3600, TFDS6500E.
Connect the circuit to the motherboard, pre-enabled in the BIOS support for infrared port. (Chipset Features Setup - >> UART2 Use Infrared - >> Enabled). If done correctly, the boot Win9X immediately find the IR device and will install drivers for it.
Win9X usually put -port IR on COM4, and that should indicate when setting up programs. WinME also puts on COM4, but it does not advertise.
I think that such a design can be made to work on many motherboards, you only need to learn the connector pinout on the board. You can do this by using the instructions on the paper MB, or look at the manufacturer's website.
If everything is OK, then you can safely put any of the communications programs and enjoy informal communication with your phone.
