It just happened to me once. At first everything was fine, but when the sackgrub soup grew any aqua-trifle it began to interest from the gastric point of view. I went bankrupt to buy the second aquarium, but I did not have enough money for equipment.
The way out was easy - he tore off a wall from one bank, drilled holes in the side wall of the second bank at the base and from above, and then glued the two aquariums together with silicone. It turned out a single capacity, but with a partition. The water circulates throughout the volume and is heated from one heater, and the fish are separated.
For drilling, a diamond tubular drill was used. In place of the future hole, I made a cup of plasticine and poured water (that would not overheat the drill). The only difficulty - you need to be careful that you do not break the glass with a drill chuck when the hole is ready.
