How to operate a car in the winter?
In winter, landing in the car interior becomes uncomfortable due to bulky warm clothes. Whether it's summer in one T-shirt! Yes, and comfortableness is not at altitude, when all the glass in the hoarfrost, but in the saloon. But if you have already fulfilled all our recommendations and prepared your car for the winter, then inside the heat and ice you are not afraid.
That would seem like a car fully armed, but do not fall into euphoria. You will need a lot to learn, including from your own experience.
Preparation for departure
Let's start with the storage of cars. If there is an open area, then in this case you will need the following.
A tool for defrosting locks, if you use them. During washing, water can enter the larva and freeze in the frost. However, in order to prevent this, even in a warm time, take a syringe, yes, exactly, an ordinary medical syringe for 2-5 ml. Type in it a little clean motor, and preferably gear oil, put the needle on and through it, pour a few drops directly into the body of the larva and into the upper part of the gap between the larva and the body of the lock. Then immediately insert the key and twist the larva to allow the oil to disperse. After that, the oil will not allow the ice to pick up the metal.
There is such a secret - that filling the syringe with oil does not cause unnecessary trouble, put on the needle and pull out the piston, then pour the oil through the top.
So you opened the car after all, got into it and even started the engine (about this below), but do not idle while warming up the engine. Moreover, there are a lot of work. But even if it is not so, then still do not sit in the car, on the frozen glasses from inside formed a dense frost. As a rule, after a night or many days of hibernation, the car is under a snowdrift, and on the windows - a thick layer, no, not chocolate, but frost. After a night or many days of hibernation, the car is under a snowdrift, and on the windows - a thick layer of frost. To remove frost, you will need a special scraper. But get ready for surprises, in a severe frost this frost becomes dry and difficult to clean (it firmly adheres to the glass). After you cleaned the windows of frost, you will need a brush-estimate for cleaning surfaces, mostly horizontal, from snow. There are in the car shops and combined scraper-scrapers.
It is only necessary to remove the snow from the body. Do not clean it with frost and ice - it spoils the paint!
When cleaning, look at the temperature of the engine and, if it is already sufficient, turn the heater fan on to blow out the windows, let them warm up. Therefore, the engine must be started and warmed up with an open heater tap.
Typically, after performing these operations, the engine is already warm enough, and you can start off. Can I go? Not always! It happens that you will need to use a shovel (digging) to dig out the wheels. Shovel in winter - your faithful friend!
But, if your car sleeps in the garage, it does not mean that you will not need the above accessories. Garage does not always save from defrosting and snow clearing.
For garage locks, you will again need either the specified defrost or grease. Only before that they should be dried. In addition, an accessory such as a snow shovel will be needed to clear the exit from the garage.
In addition to the above, it does not hurt to carry with you:
- - tow rope;
- - a pair of flat boards for lining under the wheels (if possible);
- - a little dry sand (sprinkle bare ice).
Engine start in winter
As a rule, with the launch of injection engines with efficient systems, no special effort is required. A little worse things in the winter with carburetor cars. About them and talk.
Fuel the fuel pump in the float chamber, pull out the "suction" and, without forgetting to put on the handbrake, squeeze the clutch and set the gearshift lever to neutral. While releasing the clutch, turn on the starter for 3-5 seconds. Clutch is required to be squeezed if the ambient temperature is minus 25 ° C and lower, and also when using an unsuitable oil in the gearbox. To release it it is necessary after the engine starts to work steadily and to do it sufficiently smoothly and slowly.
I will take the liberty and say that contrary to the prevailing opinion that before starting the engine in cold weather it is required to turn on the passing light for a few minutes, this need not be done. First, the mass of lead in AB is such that it does not warm up for a few minutes. And, secondly, the engine still will not start at the first attempt. And the effect of surface heating of plates and electrolyte is achieved due to a large current starter - about 250 ... 300 A against 5 A in the passing beam.
After the first attempt, give a rest to the battery and starter and try again in 10 ... 15 seconds. If after 3-4 attempts the engine does not give signs of life, then either there is a malfunction or the temperature is too low. Even with serviceable systems, starting the engine at a temperature below minus 25 ° C is quite difficult. Check if there is ice in the diffusers of the carburetor.
Spray for quick starting of the engine in winter "Quick start" You can, of course, come up with different ways of heating, but, in the author's opinion, this should not be done, because under an hour this is dangerous both for the machine itself and for the health of its owner. And manipulation in such fresh air is far from beneficial.
Nowadays it is much more comfortable to use the "Quick Start" type aerosol, which is sold in auto shops, and it is completely free. These aerosols are suitable for any cars and are injected before starting into the air intake of the engine. In severe frosts, it may be necessary to repeat the procedure several times. But the launch becomes unproblematic. This saves not only the resource of the engine, battery, starter, but also your nerves.
Do not forget, the oil in the frost is dense and comes to the neck of the crankshaft with a rather long delay. Therefore, once the engine has worked more or less steadily, MirSovetov recommends reducing the engine speed to the minimum stable.
In addition, do not be afraid that the coolant in the frost is comparable to a warm engine oil or even thicker - this is normal. Avoid these problems, the engine preheating system, the so-called pre-heater. The engine starts without any problems, because oil, coolant, and the engine itself is already an acceptable temperature. The only problem is the price, which is quite impressive. And to put such a system on a relatively cheap car is irrational.
That's almost all. But the problems of winter maintenance do not end only with the technical issues of the car itself, there are also changed weather conditions.
A few tips for driving
Slippery road Unlike the warm season, winter imposes a certain and very significant imprint. You are forced to sit behind the wheel in warm clothes, which is not always convenient, and changes the habitual landing. Sitting behind the wheel in winter is better upright, always fastened. Before leaving for the road, you need to drive the car at different speeds to determine its reactions and assess the quality of the clutch.
In winter, the light time of the day is much less, so more often you have to travel with the headlights. Naturally, the headlights should work properly, be set up and always clean. When driving, avoid sharp manipulation of the pedals - this can lead to drifts. Special care should be taken in front of traffic lights and at public transport stops where ice is formed. Try to maintain longer intervals and distance.
Thus, in the winter it is necessary to be ready for any surprises, both from the side of your car, and from the surrounding transport.
