UPD: 12/17/2014 Russia sends airplanes and trains to terrorists tanks for the war in the Donbass. PHOTO + VIDEO
The vast majority of tanks sent to terrorist units in the Donbass are models of the eighties. Meet and older. Their choice by the command of the army of the Russian Federation is quite natural. Firstly, it is more convenient to deny their involvement in the supply of weapons to militants, because such samples are either in service with the Ukrainian army now or were in Soviet times. Secondly, there are plenty of old tanks in Russian warehouses that are enough for several local wars, and proper storage, like disposal, costs money.
"At the beginning of summer, the position of pro-Russian forces left much to be desired. There were no more cases like the April seizure of paratroopers with armored vehicles. Units of the Ukrainian army with weapons did not go over to the side of the" peaceful workers of Donbass "Girkin and the company didn’t hand over weapons, but used them against them. Heavy equipment was sorely lacking. In order to successfully resist the troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, visiting revolutionaries needed tanks. For these purposes, the T-64BV tank was best suited. This is the main type of tank Army of Ukraine. Moreover, it was produced in the USSR by the Malyshev Kharkov plant. With regard to the T-64BV, it is easiest to say that the Ukrainian tank was captured in the Armed Forces, Russia has nothing to do with such a model. It will be true: although there are tens of hundreds of T-64s of various modifications in warehouses in Russia, the army has long taken them out of service and is not using them (in the territory of the Russian Federation the tank monopoly Uralvagonzavod and its T-72). That T-64BV were the first tanks that entered from Russia to Ukraine. On June 12, a test batch of three T-64BVs successfully passed its own power from east to west through Snezhnoye, Torez, Makeevka to Donetsk.
