UPD: 05/05/2014 Bloody weekend: the main events of the May holidays in Ukraine
Riots in Odessa, the continuation of the ATO and other incidents of the hottest May Day in the history of Ukraine.
4 days off brought Ukraine a new round of confrontation in the Southeast. Clashes and riots had already reached Odessa, and in the Donetsk region, activities continued as part of the anti-terrorist operation.
At the same time, May 1, with its parades and processions, was calm enough, and the peak of unrest fell on May 2-3.
Odessa in the blood
The meeting of football fans of Chornomorets and Metalist before the match of the teams in the Ukrainian championship ended tragically. Fans, along with city activists, planned to march in support of the unity of Ukraine.
Several hundred supporters of anti-Maidan came to prevent them with bats, shields and in full outfit. A fight ensued between the parties.
At the same time, the police acted rather sluggishly, inefficiently, and was not able to stop the confrontation. Some eyewitnesses noted the presence of the same red bandages on the sleeves of law enforcement officers and pro-Russian activists.
During the clashes in the city center, several supporters of the unity of Ukraine died from gunshot wounds. Such a development of the situation caused resentment of the inhabitants of Odessa, who went to Kulikovo field - the location of the anti-Maidan camp.
The camp was burned, pro-Russian activists hid in the House of Trade Unions. As a result of the clashes, the building was also scorched.
During the riots and fire in the House of Trade Unions, 46 people died, some of them are citizens of Russia.

New assault on Slavyansk
On the morning of May 2, special forces of the Ukrainian army again attacked the separatist checkpoints near Slavyansk.
Around 4.00 in the morning, special forces of the Ukrainian army attacked militia checkpoints near Slavyansk. On the outskirts of the city center are fighting. Explosions of shells and machine guns are heard. A siren sounds in the city, and from the outskirts there is thick black smoke.
The militia shot down two Ukrainian MI-24 helicopters as a result of which two soldiers were killed, and another was wounded and taken prisoner.
During the assault, Ukrainian soldiers managed to capture all 10 roadblocks around Slavyansk, a television tower and surround the city. The railway connection with Slavyansk was interrupted.
Soon, as it became known to the media, the Ukrainian troops captured the Slavyansk television center on Mount Karachun, south of Bylbasovka and Slavyansk.
The People’s Mayor and leader of the Slavyansk self-defense, Vyacheslav Ponomarev, reported the death of a pilot of one of two Ukrainian helicopters shot down by militia. According to him, Ukrainian helicopters are firing rockets at the city. There is no information about the destruction yet.
The commander of one of the checkpoints at the approaches to Slavyansk said that the Ukrainian military captured the barricade on the way to the city, as well as the city television center, RIA Novosti reports.
As of 8:00 am, the Slavyansk self-defense forces are reporting a temporary suspension of fire from the attackers.
Also, according to them, in Slavyansk the movement of trains, trains, public transport was completely stopped. The city goes into a blockade position, members of the Slavyansk act group report.
According to the "people's mayor" of Slavyansk, Vyacheslav Ponomarev, the first victims appeared during the anti-terrorist operation. According to him, according to preliminary data, one person was killed and one wounded.
Soon Arsen Avakov confirmed that today at 04.30 in the morning the active phase of the anti-terrorist operation began in the area of Slavyansk-Kramatorsk. According to him, against Ukrainian special forces opened fire with the use of heavy weapons. Including grenade launchers and MANPADS. There is a dead pilot and wounded. The operation continues according to plan, Avakov assured.
At the moment, according to him, in Slavyansk, Ukrainian troops took control of all 10 roadblocks of protesters.
In turn, supporters of protesters in Slavyansk actively began to build barricades on Freedom Street.
The battle began in Mariupol: tires burn, shots sound
In Mariupol, events similar to anti-terrorist operations (ATO) are unfolding, the local website 0629 reports.
It is noted that at about 22:00 in the city center shots were fired. According to unconfirmed information, armed people are trying to capture Mariupol.
According to eyewitnesses, at about 21:00 at a checkpoint in the village of Mangush there was a clash with unknown people in camouflage. And after an hour of unrest began in Mariupol.
Shots are heard in the city center. Police raised an alarm.
The whole center is on fire. Tires are burning.
It is noted that the invaders of the city council left the city hall and are together with other people on the street.
In social networks, information is circulating that it is impossible to gather people at the building of the City Council, so as not to make them cannon fodder.
Separatist counterattack near Andreevka
On the evening of May 2, in the vicinity of Andreevka village near Slavyansk, a group of separatists attacked the servicemen of the 95th separate airborne brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
During the armed confrontation, two Ukrainian soldiers were killed.
OSCE Representatives Released
On May 3, separatists in Slavyansk handed over to the Secretary of the Council of Europe, Thorbjorn Jagland, and the Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Vladimir Lukin, previously captured representatives of the OSCE mission.
Lukin specially arrived in Ukraine to free the mission.
Later, the SBU published a record of his conversation with the Strelcom leader of the separatist militia in Slavyansk, confirming Russia's connection with the separatists.
After Slavyansk, the ATO continued on May 3 in Kramatorsk. During the operation, the Ukrainian military took the radio and television transmission station in Kramatorsk, vacated the SBU building in the city, unblocked Kramatorsk airport and eliminated the separatist checkpoints.
The retreating militias burned several trolleybuses and buses in the city, which paralyzed the operation of public transport. 6 people were killed during the operation, 15 were hospitalized
In total, during the ATU, the SBU detained about 40 saboteurs, four of whom are citizens of Ukraine.
At the same time, the separatists claim that they still hold the center of Kramatorsk.
Shooting in Lugansk
On the night of May 3, in Lugansk, armed people with St. George ribbons tried to storm the military commissariat. The National Guard repelled an assault attempt, but one conscript soldier was wounded during the attack.

May 4 in Lugansk shot near the building of the SBU, one man was injured.
At the same time, unrest continued to take place in the cities of Donetsk and Lugansk regions, administrative buildings were seized and vacated. A special trend of the weekend was the arson and defeat of Privatbank branches.
In Odessa, the situation did not calm down, in the city there were still clashes and was restless.
It remains only to wait for the next weekend, which falls on another holiday - May 9.
