The National Bank has chosen to upgrade the design of banknotes with a face value of 100 hryvnias, being guided by the degree of wear of such banknotes, and not by the level of counterfeiting.
The hryvnia banknote counterfeit level is insignificant and corresponds to the 2013 level, Volodymyr Tishchenko, deputy director of the monetary department of the National Bank of Ukraine, said during the presentation of the updated 100-hryvnia banknote with an increased level of protection, Unian reports.
According to him, the National Bank has chosen to upgrade the design of banknotes with a face value of 100 hryvnia, guided by the degree of wear of such banknotes, and not by the level of counterfeiting.
“The fake level is at the level of 2013. That is, three and four tenths of fake banknotes for one million genuine banknotes that are in circulation, ”Tishchenko said.
According to him, among these counterfeit banknotes, banknotes of 20, 50 and 100 hryvnias are most often found. He also emphasized that the issue of new banknotes is within the planned cash growth for this year, and 100-hryvnia banknotes of the old type will be in circulation along with new ones.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on March 9, 2015, the National Bank will put into circulation notes in denominations of 100 hryvnias of the 2014 model with an improved security system. Updating the 100-hryvnia banknote is the result of a long-term project by the regulator to update the previous row of national currency banknotes of the 2003-2007 model.
