Films (feature / documentary / TV series) about the Chernobyl Catastrophe
The accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the catastrophe at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the Chernobyl disaster, the term Chornobyl disaster is most often used in the media - the destruction of the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on the territory of the Ukrainian SSR (now Ukraine) on April 26, 1986. The destruction was explosive, the reactor was completely destroyed, and a large number of radioactive substances were emitted into the environment. The accident is regarded as the largest in its kind in the history of nuclear energy, both in terms of the estimated number of people killed and affected by its consequences, and economic damage. More than 115 thousand people from the 30-kilometer zone were evacuated. To eliminate the consequences, significant resources were mobilized, more than 600 thousand people participated in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident.
Unlike the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the explosion resembled a very powerful "dirty bomb" - the main damaging factor was radioactive contamination. The cloud formed from the burning reactor carried various radioactive materials, primarily radionuclides of iodine and cesium, for the most part in Europe. The largest fallout was recorded in significant areas in the Soviet Union, located near the reactor and now referring to the territories of the Republic of Belarus, the Russian Federation and Ukraine. The Chernobyl accident was an event of great social and political importance for the USSR. All this left a certain imprint on the investigation of its causes. The approach to interpreting the facts and circumstances of the accident has changed over time, and there is still no unanimous opinion until now.
30 years have passed since the terrible catastrophe at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. During this time, dozens of documentaries, criminal and love dramas, as well as fantastic thrillers were shot about the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
