To date, there are a dozen methods to eliminate unwanted hair: from the soon-to-be-super-known laser hair removal to the unfamiliar Russian women's shugaring. This publication is designed to streamline information about depilation and hair removal, thereby simplifying for each individual a search for a suitable method. The term epilation assumes an effect on the reproductive system of the hair - the hair bulb, or the hair follicle. This means that when epilation should occur, not only the removal of the hair itself, but also the removal of their excess growth. Through one or more than a few procedures the number of hair bulbs decreases, due to which a constant effect is achieved.

Depilation suggests removing the hair without affecting the hair follicle, although there is some influence on the reproductive system of the hair. The only difference is that when waxing (wax depilation) and other methods involving pulling out the hair, the effect occurs after a few months.

Laser Hair Removal

Its principle lies in the destructive effect of the laser beam on the hair follicle. It is known that the bulb contains cells with a pigment that absorbs light and breaks down. Due to local, short-term (milliseconds) exposure and rapid cooling, laser hair removal is painless. Hence the main advantage of this type of hair removal is the possibility of performing the procedure in the "bikini zones", underarm areas, on the face. Another undoubted advantage of laser hair removal is a high coefficient of hair removal (kill ratio) - the percentage of permanently removed hair in one procedure. Disadvantages of laser hair removal are the existing limitations for light skin and light hair, as well as its high cost compared to other methods. It depends on the number of pulses of the laser beam, which in turn is determined by the area of hair removal, the amount of hair and their structure (with hard, dark hair - more expensive, with soft hair - cheaper).

Photoepilation

During photoepilation, hair bulbs are exposed to short flashes of light. The principle of elimination of the follicle is the same as in laser hair removal, with the difference that the effect is carried out over a larger area and a light beam having other physical properties. Often, laser hair removal is attributed to one of the types of photoepilation. Advantages of this method are: painlessness, the possibility of performing the procedure in the "bikini zones", axillary areas and on the face, a lower cost per session compared to laser hair removal (however it is possible that the total cost will be the same). In contrast to laser hair removal, with photoepilation, there is a lower hair removal factor, which requires more sessions.

Thermolysis

Removal of the hair and hair follicle during thermolysis occurs due to the action of an alternating electric current. Passing through the hair follicle, the current causes vibrations of the molecules, which leads to a local release of heat and death of the cells that are the source of hair growth. Flash-method involves the use of alternating current of high frequency, which, with the same effect, makes the procedure less painful. Blend-method combines thermolysis and electrolysis, which makes the procedure less painful, but more prolonged. Advantages of thermolysis are the speed of the procedure and, importantly, a persistent effect, a disadvantage is soreness (and because of this complexity when epilating in the "bikini zone", underarm areas, on the face). If the procedure is improperly performed, it is also possible that burns occur which leave small scars. Modern modifications of thermolysis (flash and blend) are less painful, more effective, however more expensive

Electrolysis

During electrolysis, the hair follicle is exposed to a constant electric current. At the end of the needle, which, just like during thermolysis, is applied to the hair, an electrochemical reaction occurs. The resulting alkali and acid destroy the cells that are the source of hair growth. The advantage of electrolysis is less soreness than thermolysis, which in turn determines the possibility of performing the procedure in sensitive areas. The drawback of electrolysis is the duration of the procedure. With a blend-method, combining thermolysis and electrolysis, the advantages of both methods are optimally combined and their disadvantages are eliminated.

Waxing (waxing)

With wax epilation, it is more correct to call this method depilation, pulling out the hair with the help of wax takes place, which can be accompanied by the removal of the hair follicle. The skin is applied a special composition containing adhesive substances (wax, honey, biologically active substances, soothing agents, etc.). Together with the removal of wax, hair removal also occurs. The advantage of the method is low (in comparison with laser and electric epilation, the cost (from 5 to 50 dollars per session), a more lasting effect compared to shaving. The disadvantage of waxing is soreness, although it is quite moderate, as well as a non-permanent effect. After a few procedures, there may be a slight decrease in hair growth. Because of the lack of a long-lasting effect, wax epilation is preferable when creating intimate hairstyles (it makes it possible to change hair styles if desired by the client). At home, special strips are used

Shugaring

Many refer this method to waxing, meaning by the latter a broader concept of the procedure of hair removal with the help of an adhesive, that is, a sticky substance. When using slag as an adhesive, a slightly warmed-up strong solution of sugar with the addition of lemon juice and other substances is used, which is the know-how of each salon. The solution is applied to the skin, evenly distributed, after which it is carefully removed with the hair. An obvious advantage of the method is its cheapness and the possibility of using it at home, a disadvantage is the painfulness that limits the application of the method to areas of the skin of the legs and hands.

Hair removal with a depilator

A spinning roller or drum driven by an electric current clamps the hair and pulls it out. Often, such pulling is accompanied by the death of the hair bulb, which explains the decrease in the number of unwanted hair after numerous sessions. The advantage is the simplicity of the procedure, as well as the need to pay money only once with the purchase of the epilator. The price of epilators varies from 20 to 100 dollars depending on the model and firm of the manufacturer. The obvious drawback of the method is the painfulness of the procedure. In some modern epilators there is a special brush that conducts a skin massage before pulling out the hair, which slightly reduces the pain. However, rarely anyone can remove the hair from the epilator in the armpit and in the "bikini zones".

Chemical Depilation

The principle of the action of chemical depilation is the effect on the hair of chemicals contained in the depilatory cream. After the destruction of the protein layers of the outer part of the hair, it easily lends itself to painless removal. The obvious advantage of this procedure is its painlessness, the possibility of application on the face and in the "bikini zones". But it is necessary to note the often occurring allergic reactions and skin irritations, as well as the weak effect of the cream on hard, dark hair.

Razor

I do not need to talk about the principle of shaving. Its obvious advantages are cheapness, simplicity, speed and, most importantly, the possibility of application even in "spartan" conditions. But shaving can provoke irritation, ingrown hair, although with certain types of skin it does not cause side effects. It is not recommended to use shaving on the face because of the possible stimulation of hair growth.

To summarize, it should be noted that it is more correct to combine several types of hair removal and depilation. It is also necessary to remember that excessive hair growth can be a consequence of serious diseases, which requires treatment not only to the cosmetologist, but also to the endocrinologist.
