Computer management by e-mail

A variety of means of remote access to computers today pond a dime, ranging from embedded mechanisms in operating systems to third-party software. All of them, like the state, use direct association with the remote machine, also want a binding binding to IP addresses, ports, as well as other network attributes. Add to this all sorts of firewalls that filter inappropriate Internet traffic and often impede the interaction between remote machines. In short, a creepy image is obtained. How blah blah blah exist?

But in what place did not we disappear? And now, not just like two or three days back in the next issue of the magazine Cooler, a link to an amazing program GetByMail, designed to manage the computer via regular e-mail, slipped through. Exotic, no doubt, a thing more suitable, rather, aesthetes, than ordinary users. But did it stop us at any time? To get a herbarium, in the words of the well-known Sergei Golubitsky, GetByMail we will not do it, but only a little bit of it will be tested.

For the source, we give little official details about the heroine of today's article.

• Program author: Volodymyr Bazhan

• Available versions: GetByMail 1.2.1.15 (free), GetByMail Pro (cost $ 25)

• Free-version size: 1,7 Mb

• OS: Windows 9x / NT / 2000 / XP

The difference between royalty-free and commercial versions is small: in GetByMail Pro there is an advertising banner in the absence, and the user is guaranteed all-round support from the developer company, including future updates of the program.

Since the application workflow algorithm is also entirely focused on the interaction with e-mail, after the installation of GetByMail it is necessary to configure the e-mail parameters at once: enter the password as well, specify SMTP-also POP3-servers, and install other authentication elements. The SSL protocol is also supported by Microsoft Exchange Server.

Further, again, without delay, we go to the menu "Tools -> Options -> Messages". Here we set the interval for automatic check of the mailbox, but it seems that the compression ratio of the attachments is also their maximum size (from 100 KB down to 1 MB). It should be remembered that not all email services allow frequent access to the server, so it is better to increase the e-mail check interval in advance.

Continue to customize. Now we are interested in a computer, which will act as a server. On it we start users also we indicate them the necessary rights. To do this, we open the Security Manager tab (Tools -> Security Manager ...) and add the new user, specifying his email address, the login ID is also a password. Then tick the appropriate access privileges in the form below and assign it a working directory within which it can work (multiple directories can be added). Well, all the necessary preparations have been completed, we click the Start GetByMail button on both remote machines, and we are also allowed to start working.

In order to connect to the server computer, it is enough to specify its electrical address (assigned to it at the configuration stage), its ID also the password, then click the Connect button. The data entered by us will be encrypted by mail from the customer to the server, which in turn will send its data portion to the objection, as well. The process, as you know, great stretch in the pores, as well as delay the lightning fast response from the server there is no way. The message can be lost along the route, it may come with a delay, but it may (terrible to think!) Fall victim to some kind of spam. Name days of the heart, in general ...

Among the main features of GetByMail are the following:

• Work in both server mode and customer mode

• Manipulating files also with directories on the remote computer

• Copying also loading data in both directions

• Having a function to send a screenshot of the desktop

• Encryption of transmitted data

• Multithreaded work

• Support for guest accounts

• Presence of built-in mail client with address book

Let's summarize. GetByMail - perfectly coordinated, essence, functionally modified weapon, calculated, preferably, for amateurs. It is not destined to rest in the future on the laurels of existing remote access programs, of course, also the possibilities are not the same. But the fact that GetByMail will find its narrow circle of users is allowed not to hesitate.
