The long muscle that removes the thumb of the hand , m. Abductor pollicis longus, has a flattened bicircular abdomen, turning into a thin long tendon. The muscle lies in the distal half of the dorsolateral surface of the forearm. The initial part of it is covered by m. Extensor carpi radialis brevis and m. Extensor digitorum, and the lower one is located under the fascia of the forearm and skin.

The muscle originates from the posterior surface of the radial and ulnar bones and from the interosseous membrane of the forearm, moving obliquely downwards, bends its tendon radial bone and, passing under the extensor's support, is attached to the base of the first metacarpal bone.

Function: withdraws the thumb, taking part in the lead of the entire brush.

Innervation: n. Radialis [CVI-CVII (CVIII)].

Blood supply: a. Interossea posterior, a. Radialis.
