Plantar muscle
Plantar muscle , m. Plantaris, rudimentary and very unstable. Its muscular abdomen is fusiform, short, originating from the lateral condyle of the femur and the posterior wall of the capsule of the knee joint. Going down and somewhat medially, the muscle passes into a long narrow tendon, lying between m. Gastrocnemius and m. Soleus. In the lower third of the shin, the tendon most often fuses with the heel (Achilles) tendon, and sometimes it is attached to the heel bone itself, woven into the plantar aponeurosis.

Function: pulls the capsule of the knee joint.
Innervation: n. Tibialis (LIV-SI).
