Musculoskeletal Muscle

Musculoskeletal muscle , m. Aryepiglotticus, weakly expressed; Begins from the muscular process of the arytenoid cartilage , goes obliquely and, crossing on the posterior surface of the arytenoid cartilage with the same muscle of the opposite side, follows to the top of the arytenoid cartilage of the other side. Further, heading anteriorly, weaves into the lateral edges of the epiglottis.

Being covered by the mucous membrane, it forms cherpalo-gastric
Folds, plicae aryepiglotticae, bounding the entrance to the larynx laterally.

The lower part of this muscle, from the muscle process to the tip of the arytenoid cartilage of the opposite side, is described as an oblique anteroid muscle, m. Arytenoideus obliquus.

Cutting, m. Aryepiglotticus narrows the entrance to the larynx and pulls back and downwards the epiglottis cartilage , thus closing the entrance to the larynx with the swallowing act.
