Lateral Atlantoaxle Joint

Lateral atlantoose joint , paired, is formed by the lower articular surfaces of the atlas and the upper articular surfaces of the axial vertebra. It belongs to the sinus of inactive joints, since the articular surfaces of it are flat and even. In this joint, gliding occurs in all directions of the articular surfaces of the atlas relative to the axial vertebra.
