Intermittent and mid-joint joints

The wrist joints , articulationes carpi, are represented by a number of joints. The bones of the wrist form inter-articular joints, articulationes intercarpales, and between the bones of the first and second rows of the wrist is the middle-wrist joint, articulatio mediacarpea. The distal surface of the first row of the wrist bones limits the deep articular cavity, which includes the globular surface formed by the capitate and hooked bones, and also the dystally globular surface of the scaphoid bone that enters the depression formed by the bones of the second row. As a result, the articular cavity is S-shaped. The cavity of the articular joint extends into the articular cavities between the individual bones of the wrist and communicates with the cavity of the carpometacarpal joint. The joint capsule is attached to the edge of the articular surfaces of the bones of the wrist.

The joint is strengthened by the following ligaments:

1. Rear inter-vertebral ligaments, ligg. Intercarpalia dorsalia, stretched between the individual bones of the wrist on the dorsal side of the joint.

2. The palmar intervertebral ligaments, ligg. Intercarpalia palmaria, also stretched between the bones of the wrist, but from the side of their palmar surface. Some bundles of these ligaments start from the head bone and in the form of rays diverges to the bones of the first and second rows of the wrist, forming a radial ligament of the wrist, lig. Carpi radiatum.

In addition to these ligaments, there are interosseous intercostal ligaments, ligg. Intercarore interossea, which are located between the individual bones of the wrist near the wrist and carpometacarpal joints.

The articular joint in the form of articular surfaces refers to spherical joints with two spherical heads. Movement in the joint is severely limited, so the mid-wrist joint refers to the inactive joints.
