The joint of the pea

The joint of the pea , articulatio ossis pisiformis, connects the pea-bones with the trihedral. The sesamoid-shaped pea bone carries the articular surface only on the side in contact with the articular surface of the trihedral bone facing it.

The joint capsule is fixed at the edge of the articular surfaces of the bones. The joint cavity can communicate with the cavity of the wrist joint. In the joint, the following ligaments are available:

1. Grubby-hook ligament, lig. Pisohamatum, - between the pea-bones and the crochet hook.

2. Pseudo-metacarpal ligament, lig. Pisometacarpeum, stretched from the pea to the bases of III-V metacarpal bones.

These ligaments are a continuation of the tendon of the elbow flexor of the hand, m. Flexor carpi ulnaris, in the thickness of which there is a large sesamoid bone - a pea-shaped bone.

Cartilaginous, rounded formations located in the thickness of the tendons. These bones cause the lifting of the corresponding muscle tendon and the creation of a more favorable angle of action on the bone.
