Pubic Symphysis

The pubic symphysis, symphysis pubica, is formed by hyaline cartilage-covered articular surfaces of the pubic bones, facies symphysiales, and a fibrous-cartilaginous interlobic disc between them, discus interpubicus. This disc is fused with the stiffened surfaces of the pubic bones and has in its thickness a sagittally located slit-shaped cavity. In women, the disc is somewhat shorter than that of men, but thicker and has a relatively large cavity.

Following bundles:

1. Upper pubic ligament. Lig. Pubicum superius, which is located on the upper edge of the symphysis and stretched between both pubic tubercles.

2. Arch cuff, lig. Arcuatumn pubis, which on the lower edge of the symphysis passes from one pubic bone to the other.

To its own pelvic ligaments can be attributed a blocking membrane, membrana obturatoria, which consists of bundles of connective tissue fibers, predominantly transverse direction. The tufts are attached to the edge of the lock and open, performing it all the way, except for the locking furrow. The locking membrane has a number of small holes. It and the muscles beginning with it, together with the filing groove, limit the canalis, canalis obturatorius, through which the vessels of the same name and nerves pass.
