Subcutaneous Neck Muscle

The subcutaneous muscle of the neck , ptatysma, in the form of a thin muscular plate is located under the skin of the neck, tightly fusing with it. Muscular, the bundles of this muscle, starting in the chest area at the level of the second rib, are directed upward and medially. At the edge of the lower jaw, the medial muscle bundles are intertwined with the bundles of the same muscle of the opposite side and are attached to the edge of the lower jaw; Lateral muscle bundles pass to the face where they are weaved into the parotid-chewing fascia and reach the corner of the mouth.

Function: tightens the skin of the neck and partly of the breast, lowers the lower jaw and pulls the corner of the mouth outward and downward.

Innervation: Mr. colli (n. Facialis).

Blood supply: aa. Cervicalis superficialis, facialis.
