Gasoline (kerosene)


Toxic properties are associated with the narcotic effect on the central nervous system. Poisoning can occur when gasoline vapor enters the respiratory tract, when exposed to large areas of skin. Toxic dose with oral administration 20-50 g.
Symptoms. When poisoning caused by the inhalation of low concentrations of gasoline, there are phenomena similar to the state of intoxication: mental excitement, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, redness of the skin, pulse rush, in more severe cases, fainting with the development of seizures and fever. At drivers at a suction of gasoline in a hose he sometimes gets into a lung that leads to development of "gasoline pneumonia": quickly there are pains in a side, a dyspnea, a cough with rusty sputum, a sharp rise in temperature. There is an obvious smell of gas from his mouth. When the gasoline gets inside, there are profuse and repeated vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, loose stools. Sometimes there is an increase in the liver and its soreness, icteric sclera.
Treatment:
Remove victim to fresh air, inhalation of oxygen, artificial respiration. If the gasoline gets inside, rinse the stomach through the probe, give a laxative, hot milk, warmers the potato. Antibiotics (2,000,000 units of penicillin and 1 g of streptomycin) intramuscularly, inhalation of antibiotics. Cardiovascular drugs (cordiamin, camphor, caffeine). With the phenomena of "gasoline pneumonia" - ACTH (40 units daily), ascorbic acid (10 ml of 5% solution) intramuscularly. Contraindicated alcohol, emetics and adrenaline.
