Bulbar and pseudobulbar palladium

These diseases are most often a consequence of cerebral vascular injury in atherosclerosis. The brain is divided into three large parts: the cerebral hemisphere, the cerebellum and the brain stem (part of the brain that connects the brain and spinal cord). The brain stem consists of a cluster of cells (nuclei) through which the big brain controls the muscles of the face and eyes, receives information from the receptors and sensory organs (hearing, taste, balance, vision). The part of the trunk in which the nerves that control the swallowing, the vocal cords, the neck muscles that tilt the head are called bulbar. The control of the nuclei in each half of the brainstem is carried out from the two hemispheres at the same time, therefore, in case of a stroke in one of them, the swallowing and voice of the patient are not upset - the healthy hemisphere successfully replaces the functions of the patient. When the cells are damaged in the brain stem, the functions are violated, since there is no one to pass the commands to the brain cells. This paralysis is called bulbar. However, sometimes the disease affects both hemispheres of the brain (two strokes, brain atrophy at old age, etc.), and then, with the preservation of motor cells in the trunk, the patient develops disorders similar to bulbar paralysis, or pseudobulbar paralysis.
Symptolus and current. Patients with bulbar paralysis are upset with swallowing, nasal speech, hoarseness. In patients with pseudobulbar palsy, complaints are similar, they are always combined with disorders such as "violent" crying or laughing: a person very easily cries (laughs) and can not stop. At pseudobulbar paralysis, intellectual disorders are always expressed.
Recognition:
In acute disorders of swallowing (perperhypia), changes in voice, nasal voices, it is urgent to call an ambulance. If such disorders occur in the elderly and develop slowly, then this does not require emergency care, under the guise of the disease, a brain tumor can also flow, so it will not hurt to show the neurologist.
Treatment is the same as with cerebral atherosclerosis or stroke (see).
The prognosis for pseudobulbar palsy is serious, with bulbar depends on the severity and cause of paralysis.
