Foreign bodies of the larynx

Pieces of food or objects from the mouth fall into the larynx with a sudden sigh, screaming, while talking, laughing. Most often, children from 1 to 4 years old suffer.
Attack reflex (due to irritation of the larynx) cough, a sharp difficulty in breathing, cyanosis of the lips, choking may occur.
Emergency measures are required. First of all, you should try to remove the object with your finger, which is inserted laterally into the pharynx. If you fail, you need to turn the child upside down and, holding his legs, shake him. Sometimes it is possible to extract a foreign body with a sharp contraction of the thorax with both hands. All activities are conducted only in a position upside down. It is unacceptable to tap on the back in sitting position, this can worsen the condition and lead to irreparable consequences. If the foreign body can not be removed, it is necessary to immediately hospitalize the patient.
