Caries

A common disease that affects 95% of people. It is based on the destruction of hard tooth tissues: enamel and dentin under it. The reason is not completely clear. Nevertheless, irregular dental care is a predisposing factor.
Symptoms and course:
Caries appears gradually: on the surface of the enamel of a tooth appears a pigmented spot (first white, and then yellow). Soon it acquires a brown color. In the future, the enamel is destroyed, and then the dentin. The process usually proceeds slowly, in more rare cases - quickly. The emerging cavity first in the enamel, and then in the dentin progresses in depth and width. The remains of food in it serve as a nutrient medium for bacteria that are abundant in the oral cavity. The rot caused by them aggravates its antihygienic state. There is an unpleasant smell.
Dental caries is accompanied by characteristic pain sensations. Quite acute pain occurs during the consumption of cold, hot, sour, sweet food. It quickly disappears after eliminating these factors (rinsing the mouth with warm water). Man, unfortunately, adapts to the "conditions" of food, excluding temperature and chemical stimuli. He has an erroneous belief about the full well-being, calling the doctor considers it superfluous. However, the destructive process continues, which leads to a significant destruction of the crown of the tooth and the spread of the process to the tooth pulp - pulp. This, in turn, complicates the treatment of the tooth and reduces the possibility of its preservation.
And this is extremely important. Teeth destroyed or removed not only distort the act of chewing, phonetics of speech, appearance, but also adversely affect the state of the stomach. Due to poorly chewed food, gastritis, stomach ulcers and so on can occur.
Treatment:
Timely appeal to the dentist is absolutely necessary when there are signs of dental caries. Its functional efficiency will be restored: economically remove the destroyed enamel and dentin tissue and restore the integrity of the crown with the help of a filling material. In some regions of the globe, where fluoride salts are found in drinking water below the norm, especially tooth decay is observed in the carious process in the whole population. In such cases, measures are recommended that are aimed at the artificial introduction of fluoride salts into the body by including them in food salt or centralized fluoridation of drinking water.
