Medicinal products of the local (anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, antiparasitic) or general action (sodium salicylate, analgin, euphyllin, chloral hydrate) through the rectum. For 20-30 minutes before the drug is put cleansing enema. After emptying the intestine, the prescribed drug is injected into the rectum in a small volume (15-100 ml) in a warm form with a rubber balloon or a syringe through a thin catheter. After administering the medication, the patient should lie quietly for at least 30 minutes. To introduce medicinal solutions in large volumes (0.5-2 L), drop enemas are used. The patient should lie on his back, the procedure lasts several hours. Usually a mug of Esmarch is used. A dropper is inserted into the connecting rubber tube and a clamp is inserted, allowing to regulate the flow of liquid. To keep the solution cool, Esmarch's mug is put in a cotton swab, and a bottle of boiling water is put in the solution. Nutritional enemas are similarly performed.
