Arsenic and its compounds


Calcium arsenate, sodium arsenite, Parisian greens and other arsenic compounds are used as pesticides for seed dressing and pest control, they are physiologically active and poisonous. The lethal dose with oral administration is 0.06-0.2 g.
Symptoms. After the poison is introduced into the stomach, the gastrointestinal form of poisoning usually develops. After 2-8 h vomiting, metallic taste in the mouth, severe pain in the abdomen. Vomit greenish color, liquid frequent stool, reminiscent of rice decoction. There comes a sharp dehydration of the body, accompanied by cramps. Blood in the urine, jaundice, anemia, acute renal failure. Collapse, coma. Respiratory paralysis. Death can come in a few hours.
First aid. If you get into the stomach, immediately vigorously wash with water with a laxative - magnesium oxide or magnesium sulfate (20 g per 1 liter of water), vomiting: keep vomiting with warm milk or a mixture of milk with beaten egg whites. After washing inwards - freshly prepared "arsenic antidote" (every 10 minutes for 1 teaspoon until vomiting is shortened) or 2-3 tablespoons of antivenom mixture "GUM: in 400 ml of water dilute to a consistency of paste 25 g of tannin, 50 g of activated carbon, 25 G magnesium oxide - burnt magnesia.
At the earliest possible time, intramuscular injection of unithiol or dicaptol, transfusion of blood. With severe pain in the intestine - platifillin, atropine subcutaneously, paranephalic blockade novocaine. Cardiovascular drugs according to indications. Treatment of collapse. Hemodialysis in the first day after poisoning, peritoneal dialysis, forced diuresis. Symptomatic treatment.
