At the initial stage of the disease, the phenomena of irritability, poor tolerance of emotional and physical stress, and external stimuli predominate. Patients do not tolerate bright light, sharp noise, loud speech, temperature changes. Various vegetative reactions easily arise in them: palpitations, sweating, cold extremities. Falling asleep is disturbed, a superficial sleep. Patients often complain of a headache, throbbing or noise in the head, which makes mental activity difficult. Gradually, irritability reactions are replaced by rapid exhaustion, severe weakness, fatigue. Patients can not focus, constantly distracted from work. Discontent appears, resentment and tearfulness. When you try to force yourself to do something, a lot of complaints about feeling unwell, weakness, weakness immediately appear. In the afternoon, such patients have a state of drowsiness, and at night insomnia. With pronounced vegetative symptoms, patients begin to listen to the activity of their organs (how the heart beats, the stomach works, the lungs breathe), are fixed on unpleasant sensations, anxiously thinking about possible dangerous diseases.
In most cases of neurasthenia ends in a favorable outcome. Sometimes it’s enough to resolve a situation that causes emotional stress and provide the patient with a good rest, and the condition quickly normalizes. In other cases, quite a long treatment is required.
