IRON OXIDE LACTATE (Ferri lactas).
Synonym: Ferrum lacticum.
A greenish-white crystalline powder or a cluster of small needles with a characteristic odor. It is difficult and slowly soluble in cold water (1:50), soluble in boiling water (1:12), practically insoluble in alcohol, easily soluble in diluted mineral acids. Aqueous solutions have a slightly acidic reaction, a greenish-yellow color; When in contact with air, the solution does not become brown.
Iron ferrous lactate, like other ferrous compounds, is more easily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract than oxide compounds; Does not cause irritation of the mucous membranes.
Assign for hypochromic anemia adults 1 g, children 0.1 - 1, 0 g 3 - 5 times a day. If necessary, concomitantly administer gastric juice or hydrochloric acid diluted acid, give ascorbic acid.
The drug currently has limited use.
