Medication Description: Ferbitol (Ferbitolum)
The preparation of iron for intramuscular injection. Is an aqueous solution of iron sorbitol complex containing about 50% iron.
Dark brown liquid.
1 ml contains about 0.05 g (50 mg) of iron.
The drug is prescribed for hypochromic iron deficiency anemia of various etiologies (post-hemorrhagic, gastrogenic, agastric, with chlorosis, etc.), especially in case of poor tolerability of iron preparations used orally.
For children, the drug is indicated for iron deficiency anemia associated with feeding defects, nutritional and infectious diseases, as well as for anemia in premature babies.
Administered intramuscularly in adults, 2 ml daily. The course of treatment 15 30 injections. Children up to 2 years of age are administered at 0.5 - 1, 0 ml, over 2 years old - at 1 - 2 ml.
After a course of treatment (15–30 injections), it is recommended to administer further (prophylactically) 2 ml 2–4 times a month.
The drug is usually well tolerated. In some cases, nausea is possible (drug withdrawal is not required). With pain at the injection site, you can enter the drug in a 0.5% solution of novocaine.
The drug is contraindicated in hemochromatosis, abnormal liver function and in acute nephritis.
