Propolis (bee glue) is a waste product of bees. Used by bees to cover the walls of the hives, strengthen honeycombs, etc.
Dense or sticky elastic-viscous mass of greenish-brown or dark brown color with a grayish tint, a specific smell, bitter-burning taste. Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol.
The composition of propolis includes a mixture of resins, waxes, essential oils and other substances. Chemical analysis shows the presence in propolis of a number of natural compounds (flavones, flavanones, flavanols, derivatives of cinnamic acid, acetoxybetulinol, etc.) contained in the buds of trees (birch, poplar, etc.), from which bees collect sticky secretions.
In folk medicine, propolis is used to remove corns (applied as a cake mixed with fat on the corn), in the treatment of wounds and burns (as an ointment), for rinsing in inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and throat (diluted alcohol solution), etc. data on the effectiveness of 30% alcohol solution of propolis in certain skin and fungal diseases (pyoderma, eczema, etc.).
For medical use, propolis tincture is allowed, Propolin tablets, Propoceum ointment, Proposol aerosol, Propomizol aerosol.
Propolis tincture (Tinctura Ropolisi). 10% propolis solution in 80% ethylic alcohol.
Transparent liquid of red-brown color with a characteristic smell of propolis.
Applied topically as an anti-inflammatory and wound-healing agent in dental and dermatological practice.

Contain 0.01 g dry preparation of propolis.
Used as a hepatoprotective agent for toxic (including alcoholic) liver damage. The mechanism of action of the drug is not well understood.
