Synonyms: Prozac, Prosac.

It is an active inhibitor of reuptake by nerve endings of serotonin, has little effect on the capture of noradrenaline and dopamine. It has a weak effect on cholinergic and H 1 - histamine receptors.

Applied with different types of depression (especially with depression accompanied by fear). The usual dose for adults is 20 mg per day (by mouth). After a few weeks, increase the dose by 20 mg per day. The maximum daily dose is 80 mg. People elderly and senile age are prescribed in a dose not exceeding 60 mg per day.

With a single admission (20 mg) taken in the morning, with a double-morning and afternoon.

The drug is well absorbed. The maximum concentration in the blood plasma is noted 4 to 8 hours after ingestion, the half-existence period is about 3 days. It is excreted as an active metabolite (desmethyl fluoxetine) for 1 week.

The expressed therapeutic effect is observed in 1 - 4 weeks after the beginning of treatment.

The drug is usually well tolerated. Due to the weak anticholinergic action, it is relatively rare to cause constipation, dry mouth (in comparison with amitriptyline and other tricyclic antidepressants). May cause drowsiness, headache, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite (has anorexic effect).

Do not use the drug simultaneously with MAO inhibitors and not earlier than 14 days after stopping their intake. Do not drink alcohol.
