Description of the medicine: Mexidolum (Mexidolum)

MEXIDOL (Mexidolum). 3-Oxy-6-methyl-2-ethylpyridine succinate.

White or white with a creamy hue of crystalline powder. Easily soluble in water.

On the chemical structure, mexidol is the corresponding emoxipin salt of succinic acid (succinate).

Like emoxipin, mexidol is an inhibitor of free radical processes (an antioxidant), but it has a more pronounced antihypoxic effect.

Mexidol has a wide range of biological activity. It is effective in various types of hypoxia: it has a more pronounced and long-lasting effect than dibunol (ionol). The drug increases the body's resistance to oxygen-dependent pathological conditions (shock, cerebral circulation disorders, etc.), improves mnestic functions, reduces the toxic effects of alcohol, etc.

Mexidol is proposed for the treatment of acute disorders of cerebral circulation, discirculatory encephalopathy, vegetovascular dystonia, atherosclerotic disorders of brain functions, for relief of withdrawal symptoms in alcoholism and drug addiction, in other conditions accompanied by tissue hypoxia.

Apply mexidol intramuscularly or intravenously (struino or drip). It is recommended to inject the drug for abstinence and vegetative and sympathoadrenal paroxysms, and drip for acute disorders of cerebral circulation.

When administered intravenously as a solvent, sterile water for injection is recommended. Jet mexidol is injected for 5 to 7 minutes, drip, at a rate of 60 drops per minute. Doses are prescribed individually.

Begin treatment with a dose of 100 mg 1 to 3 times a day, gradually increasing the dose to obtain a therapeutic effect. The duration of treatment and the choice of an individual dose depend on the severity of the patient's condition and the effectiveness of the treatment. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 800 mg.

For the treatment of acute cerebrovascular accident (stroke), mexidol is administered intravenously drip at a dose of 200-300 mg in the first 2-4 days, and then intramuscularly at 100 mg 3 times a day.

Patients with dyscirculatory encephalopathy and vegetovascular dystonia receive the drug intramuscularly at a dose of 50-100 mg 3 times a day.

With an abstinence syndrome, mexidol is administered at a dose of 100 to 200 mg intramuscularly 2-3 times a day or intravenously (drip) 1 to 2 times a day, and with neurotic and neurosis-like disorders, intramuscularly administered at a dose of 50 to 400 mg per day.

For the treatment of atherosclerotic dementia in elderly patients, mexidol is used intramuscularly at a dose of 100-300 mg per day.

In acute neuroleptic intoxication, the drug is used intravenously struino in a dose of 50 - 300 mg per day.

Usually mexidol is well tolerated. Some patients may experience nausea and dry mouth.
