Description of the medicine: Bicillin-1 (Bicillinum-1)
N, N-Dibenzylethylenediamine salt of benzylpenicillin.
Synonyms: Benzacillin, Benzatini, Benzethacil, Benzylpenicillin-Benzatine, Benzylpenicillinum, Diaminpenicillin, Dibencil, Duapen, Duropenin, Extencillin, Moldamin, Penadur, Tardocillin, etc.
White powder, which forms a stable suspension upon addition of water. It is practically insoluble in water, very little in alcohol.
Bicillin-1 is a drug of prolonged action. When administered intramuscularly in the form of a suspension, it is slowly absorbed and enters the bloodstream for a long time.
Used for infectious diseases caused by pathogens sensitive to penicillin (streptococci, pneumococci, staphylococci, etc.).
The use of bicillin-1 is especially indicated if necessary to create a long-term therapeutic concentration of penicillin in the blood. It is also indicated for the prevention and treatment of rheumatism and the treatment of syphilis (see also Bitsillin-5).
The drug is administered only intramuscularly. Intravenous and endolumbar administration is not allowed.
A suspension of bicillin-1 is prepared aseptically immediately before use: 2 to 3 ml of sterile water for injection or isotonic sodium chloride solution is introduced into a bottle of bicillin, the mixture is mixed until a uniform suspension is introduced, which is injected deep into the upper outer quadrant of the buttock.
Adults are administered 300,000 or 600,000 units once a week or 1,200,000 units once every 2 weeks.
Children are administered at a rate of 5,000 - 10,000 units per 1 kg of body weight 1 time per week or at the rate of 20,000 units per 1 kg of body weight 1 time per 2 weeks. More frequent injections are not allowed.
In the treatment of rheumatism, the dose of bicillin-1 for adults can be increased to 2,400,000 units 2 times a month. For the prevention of recurrence of rheumatism, bicillin-1 (or bicillin-5) is prescribed intramuscularly at 600,000 units once a week for 6 weeks in combination with acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
For the treatment of syphilis, bicillin-1 is used according to special instructions.
After injection of the drug (as well as other prolonged preparations of penicillin), pain at the injection site is possible.
Contraindications and precautions are the same as for benzylpenicillin sodium salt.
Release form: in bottles on 300 000; 600,000; 1,200,000 and 2,400,000 units based on benzylpenicillin.
