Description of the medicine: Cephazolin (Cephazolin)

Cephazolin *. [3- (5-Methyl-1, 3, 4-thiadiazolyl-2-thiomethyl) -7- (1-tetrazolylacetamido) -3cefem-4] carboxylic acid.

Synonyms: Kefzol, Cefamesin, Acef, Ansef, Atralcef, Saricef, Sefacidal, Cefamizin, Cefazolin, Celmetin, Gramaxin, Kefazol, Kefol, Kefzol, Kezolin, Reflin, Sefazol, Tefazolin, Totacef and others.

Produced in the form of sodium salt - a white lyophilized mass, soluble in water.

Cefazolin is one of the main cephalosporins of the first generation - a broad-spectrum antibiotic that influences bactericidal effects on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including staphylococci that form and do not form penicillinase, hemolytic streptococci, pneumococcus, salmonella, shigella, certain types of proteas, group microbes Clebsiella, a diphtheria wand, gonococci and other microorganisms. Does not act on rickettsia, viruses, fungi and protozoa.

Cefazolin is not absorbed when taken orally. With intramuscular injection, the drug is rapidly absorbed, the maximum concentration in the blood is noted after 1 h; The effective concentration after a single dose remains in the blood plasma for 8-12 hours. With intravenous administration, a higher concentration is created in the blood, but the drug is released faster (half-life about 2 hours).

It is allocated basically (about 90%) kidneys in the unchanged kind.

Cefazolin penetrates the placental barrier and is found in the amniotic fluid. In the milk of nursing mothers is detected in low concentrations.

Cefazolin is used for infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms that are sensitive to it: for respiratory infections, septicemia, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, wound infections, infected burns, peritonitis, urinary tract infections, etc.

Enter the drug intramuscularly or intravenously (drip or jet). For intramuscular administration dilute the contents of the vial in 2 - 3 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution or sterile water for injection and injected deep into the muscle. For intravenous fluid administration, a single dose of the drug is diluted in 10 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution and injected slowly for 3 to 5 minutes. With intravenous drip introduction, the preparation (0.5-1.0 g) is diluted in 100 - 250 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution or 5% glucose solution, the injection is given within 20 - 30 minutes.

The daily dose of cefazolin is for adults from 1 to 4 g (sometimes more) and depends on the severity of the infection, the type of pathogen and its sensitivity to the antibiotic. If infections are caused by Gram-positive microorganisms, a single dose for adults is usually 0.25-0.5 g; Enter 3 times a day (every 8 hours). For infections of the respiratory tract of medium severity caused by pneumococci, for diseases of the urinary tract caused by microorganisms sensitive to the antibiotic, 0.5-1.0 g every 12 hours is prescribed. For diseases caused by gram-negative antibiotic-sensitive microorganisms, 0.5 - 1, 0 g of cefazolin every 6 to 8 hours.
