Cephalosporin antibiotic of the third generation for parenteral use.

By chemical structure is close to other drugs of this group (see Ceftriaxone).

Synonyms: Kefadim, Mirocef, Fortum, Cefortan, Ceftim, Fortam, Fortum, Mirocef, Panzid, Spectrum, Starcef, Tazidine and others.

Produced in the form of a powder from white to yellowish color in ampoules containing 0.25; 0.5; 1 and 2 g of ceftazidime with sodium carbonate (1, 18 mg per g of ceftazidime). When water is added, the preparation dissolves to form gas bubbles - an injection solution is formed.

Enter ceftazidime intramuscularly and intravenously. With both methods of administration, a high concentration of the drug in the blood plasma is quickly achieved (5 to 10 minutes after intravenous, 30 to 45 minutes after intramuscular injection).

The drug persists in the body for a long time, it is not metabolized, it is secreted mainly (80 - 90%) by the kidneys unchanged for 24 hours. It easily penetrates into the organs and tissues (bone tissue), sputum, synovial, pleural, peritoneal, And eye fluid, through the placental barrier, is bad - through intact blood-brain barrier.

Ceftazidime is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. Effective in infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Applied with septicemia, peritonitis, meningitis, severe infections of the respiratory tract, infections of the urinary tract, skin, soft tissues, bones and joints, gastrointestinal tract, etc.

The dose for adults is usually 1 g every 8 h or 2 g every 12 h (for severe infections - up to 6 g per day). With less severe infections and infections of the urinary tract, it is usually prescribed 0.5-1.0 g every 12 hours.

Patients with impaired renal function, doses of ceftazidime are reduced (up to 1 g every 12 h and up to 0.5 g every 48 h).

Children, depending on the age and severity of the disease, administer the drug in smaller doses: at the age of 2 months - 25-50 mg / kg per day (in 2 divided doses), over 2 months - 50-100 mg / kg per day .

Possible side effects and contraindications are basically the same as for other cephalosporin antibiotics.

Product: in bottles of 0.25; 0.5; 1 and 2 g. Solutions are prepared immediately before administration (in isotonic sodium chloride solution or 5% glucose solution). Do not mix ceftazidime solution with aminoglycoside solutions in one syringe.

Storage: at a temperature not exceeding 25 "C.
