Description of the medicine: Imipenem (Imipenem)

IMIPEN (Imipenem).

N-Formimidoylthienamycin or (5S, 6R) -3 - [[2- (formimidoylaminoethyl) thio] -6 [R] -1-hydroxyethyl] -7-oxo-1-azabicyclo [3.2.0] -hept-2- Ene-2-carboxylic acid.

Synonym: Imipemide.

Imipen is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. Effective against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. Has a strong bactericidal effect. It is resistant to b-lactamase of gram-negative bacteria. It acts on Pseudomonas aeurhynia, Saratia, Enterobacter, resistant to most β-lactam antibiotics.

For medical use, a combined preparation containing imipenem in combination with a specific inhibitor of the enzyme dihydropeptidase of the kidneys, cilastatin, is produced. This combination inhibits the metabolism of imipenem in the kidneys and significantly increases the concentration of unchanged antibiotic in the kidneys and urinary tract.

This combination drug is called "Tienam".
