Synonyms: Amikacin sulfate, Amikin, Amitrex, Buklin, Briclin, Fabianol, Kanimax, Likacin, Lukadin, Sifamic.
Amorphous powder white or white with a yellowish hue. Easily soluble in water. Hygroscopic.
Obtained semi-synthetically from kanamycin A.
It is one of the most active antibiotics-aminoglycosides. Has a wide range of antibacterial activity. Effective against gram-positive and especially gram-negative bacteria.
Apply intramuscularly and intravenously. Indications for use are the same as for other antibiotic-aminoglycosides administered parenterally (see Tobramycin, Kanamycin, Gentamicin, Sisomycin).
Solutions of amikacin sulfate are prepared immediately before use. For intramuscular injections, dissolve the contents of the vial (0.25-0.5 g) in 2 to 3 ml of sterile water for injection. For intravenous administration (injected at a rate of 60 drops per minute), the same solution is prepared, which is diluted in 200 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution or 5% glucose solution. The concentration of amikacin solution when administered to a vein should not exceed 5 mg per ml.
Regardless of the method, adults (0.5 g) are injected 2 to 3 times daily for 7 to 10 days.
For uncomplicated urinary tract infections (except for infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa), intramuscularly inject 0.25 g 2 times a day for 5 to 7 days.
The maximum daily dose is 1, 5 g.
If the excretory function of the kidneys is impaired, the dose reduces or increases the intervals between injections.
In the absence of a curative effect, they switch to other drugs for 5 days.
Possible complications and contraindications are the same as when using other antibiotics-aminoglycosides.
