SULFADIMESIN (Sulfadimezinum). 2- (para-Aminobenzenesulfamido) - 4, 6 - dimethylpyrimidine.

White or slightly yellow crystalline powder. Practically insoluble in water, easily soluble in acids and alkalis.
It is used for pneumococcal, streptococcal, meningococcal infections, sepsis, gonorrhea, as well as for infections caused by Escherichia coli and other microorganisms.
Sulfadimezin is rapidly absorbed, relatively low toxicity.
Doses for adults are the same as doses of norsulfazole.
The highest dose for adults inside a single 2 g daily 7 g.
Children are prescribed 0.1 g / kg at the first dose, then 0.025 g / kg every 4 to 6 to 8 hours.
In the treatment of dysentery, sulfadimezin is prescribed to adults according to the following scheme: on the 1st and 2nd days of the disease - 6 g per day (every 4 hours 1 g); on the 3rd and 4th days - 4 g per day (every 6 hours for 1 g); on the 5th and 6th days, 3 g per day (every 8 hours, 1 g). On a course of treatment from 25 to 30 g of the drug. After a break of 5-6 days, a second cycle of treatment is carried out: on the 1st and 2nd days, 1 g is prescribed after 4 hours (at night after 8 hours), only 5 g per day; on the 3rd and 4th days - 1 g every 4 hours (do not give at night), only 4 g per day; on the 5th day - 1 g after 4 hours (do not give at night), only 3 g per day. During the entire second cycle give 21 g of the drug; with a mild course of the disease, the dose can be reduced to 18 g.
Children are prescribed sulfadimezin for dysentery in the following doses up to 3 years - up to 0.2 g / kg per day; the daily dose is divided into 4 doses and given during the day, without disturbing the night's sleep. In the specified dose, the drug is taken within 7 days. Children over 3 years of age are prescribed 4 times a day in a single dose from 0.4 to 0.75 g, depending on age.
Sulfadimezin, like other sulfanilamide drugs, is often used with antibiotics.
In combination with chloridine, sulfadimezin is used for toxoplasmosis.
In the treatment with sulfadimezin, an abundant alkaline drink is prescribed. It is necessary to systematically conduct a blood test, as in the treatment with other sulfa drugs.
