Description of the drug: Sulfalenum (Sulfalenum)

SULFALEN (Sulfalenum). 2- (p-Aminobenzenesulfamido) -3-methoxypyrazine.

Synonyms: Kelfizine, Dalysep, Kelfizina, Longum, Polycidal, Sulfalene, Sulfamethoxypyrazine, Sulfametopyrazine, Sulfapyrazinmethoxin.

White or white with a yellowish tinge of crystalline powder. Virtually nerastvorim in water, easily soluble in solutions of alkalis and acids.

By antibacterial action is close to other sulfanilamide preparations. It differs, however, in that it has an "extremely long" effect.

After oral intake quickly absorbed, the maximum concentration in the blood is detected after 4 to 6 hours. The drug is circulating in the blood for a long time. The half-life of blood is an average of 65 hours; 60% of the administered dose is withdrawn within 9 days. Slow excretion from the body is due to a low degree of reabsorption of the drug in the renal tubules.

Sulfalene penetrates well into body fluids and tissues. In high concentrations found in bile. The drug, to a lesser extent than other depot-sulfonamides, binds to plasma proteins, which ensures its high concentration in the blood in a free active form.

The drug in therapeutic doses does not disrupt the function of the kidneys (the absence of crystalluria).

Assign sulfalen in infectious diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to sulfanilamide preparations: respiratory infections (bronchitis, focal and croupous pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, etc.), bile ducts (cholecystitis, cholangitis), urinary tract (pyelitis, cystitis, urethritis, etc.). ; Purulent infection of different localization (wound infection, abscesses, mastitis, etc.); For osteomyelitis, otitis, sinusitis, etc. It can be used in combination with antimalarial drugs (see Chloridine, Sulfapyridazine) for malaria (especially in forms resistant to monotherapy), as well as in toxoplasmosis.

With dysentery, sulfalene is not advisable, since it is rapidly absorbed from the small intestine when taken in small doses, in connection with which the necessary concentration in the intestine is not provided.

Assign sulfalene orally every day or every 7 to 10 days. Every day is prescribed mainly for acute or rapid infections, once every 7 to 10 days - for chronic, long-term infections and for long-term prophylaxis (for rheumatoid diseases, chronic bronchitis, etc.).

With daily use, adults are prescribed 1 g per day, then 0.2 g per day. Take 30 minutes before eating.

At reception of 1 time in 7 - 10 days appoint adults in a single dose of 2 g.

The duration of the course of treatment is usually 7 to 14 days. If the effect does not appear within 14 days, the drug is canceled and transferred to other methods of treatment.

Given the slow elimination of the drug, do not exceed these doses.

In cases of application of the drug for the prevention of recurrence (for chronic lung diseases, rheumatism, kidney and urinary tract diseases), 2 g (adults) are prescribed once a week.
