Sulgin is slowly absorbed. The main amount of the drug taken orally is retained in the intestine and secreted with feces. It is an effective remedy for the treatment of intestinal infections. By action is similar to phthalazole.

Assign inside adults and children with acute, subacute and chronic bacterial dysentery, with colitis and enterocolitis with diarrhea.

They are also used for the carriage of dysentery sticks and typhoid sticks, when preparing for operations on the large and small intestine.

In acute intestinal infections, adults are prescribed 1 to 2 g per reception. The first day is given 6 times a day, in the 2 nd and 3 rd - 5 times, in the 4 th - 4 times, on the 5 th day - 3 times a day. The course of treatment usually lasts 5-7 days.

In patients with dysentery, sulgin is administered in the same doses and according to the same regimens as phthalazole (see).

Higher doses for adults inside: single 2 g, daily 7 g.

If necessary, the sulgin is prescribed together with antibiotics.

Simultaneously with sulgin, which is characterized by a slow absorption from the intestine, it is advisable to prescribe well-absorbed drugs (sulfadimezin, etazol, etc.).

To prevent postoperative complications during surgery on the intestine, prescribe sulgin at 0.05 g / kg every 8 hours for 5 days preceding the operation, and at the same dose for 7 days after the operation.

In order to avoid the development of side effects of the drug on the urinary tract (loss of acetylated sulgin), it is necessary to maintain an enhanced diuresis during the treatment by administering 2 to 3 liters of fluid per day to the body.

When taking sulgina (and phthalazole), patients should be given sufficient doses of B complex vitamins, because in connection with the inhibition of the growth of Escherichia coli, synthesis in the intestine of vitamins entering into the complex B (thiamine, riboflavin, nicotinic acid, etc.) decreases.
