Description of the medicine: Phthalazolum (Phthalazolum)
Phthalazole (Phthalazolum). 2- (para-Phthalylaminobenzenesulfamido) thiazole.
Synonyms: Phthalylsulfathiazole, Phthalylsulfathiazolum, Sulfathalidine, Taleudron, Talidine, Talisulfazol, Thalazol, Thalazone, Thalistatyl.
Powder, white or white with a slightly yellowish tint. It is practically insoluble in water, very slightly soluble in alcohol. Soluble in aqueous sodium carbonate.
Phthalazole is slowly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The bulk of the drug, when administered orally, is retained in the intestine, where the active (sulfonamide) part of the molecule is gradually cleaved. The resulting high concentration of sulfanilamide in the intestine, combined with the activity of the drug in relation to the intestinal flora, explain its great effectiveness in intestinal infections.
Phthalazole is low toxic; side effects usually do not cause. It is similar in action to sulgin.
Applied with dysentery (acute and chronic in the acute stage), colitis, gastroenteritis, as well as surgical interventions on the intestines to prevent purulent complications.
In the acute form of dysentery, adult patients are prescribed orally on the 1st - 2nd day 6 g per day (every 4 hours 1 g), on the 3rd - 4th day - 4 g per day (every 6 hours 1 g) , on the 5th - 6th day - 3 g per day (every 8 hours for 1 g). The course of treatment is only 25 - 30 g.
After the first cycle of treatment (after 5-6 days), the second cycle is carried out: 1 - 2nd day - 1 g after 4 hours (at night after 8 hours), only 5 g per day, 3 - 4 days - 1 g after 4 hours (do not give at night), only 4 g per day; 5th day - 1 g after 4 hours (do not give at night), only 3 g per day. During the second cycle, the total dose of 21 g; with a mild illness, the dose for the second cycle can be reduced to 18 g.
The highest doses for adults inside - single 2 g, daily 7 g.
Children are prescribed phthalazole in smaller doses: up to 3 years - up to 0.2 g / kg per day; the daily dose is given in three equal parts during the day, without disturbing the night's sleep. In the specified dose, the drug is given within 7 days. Children over 3 years of age are prescribed 0.4 - 0.75 g (depending on age) to receive 4 times a day.
In the treatment of other infections, phthalazole is prescribed to adults in the first 2 to 3 days, 1 to 2 g every 4 to 6 hours, in the next 2 to 3 days, half doses.
Children are prescribed on the 1st day at 0.1 g / kg per day. The drug is given in equal doses every 4 hours with a break at night. On the following days, give 0.2 - 0.5 g every 6 to 8 hours.
Phthalazole treatment, if necessary, is combined with the appointment of antibiotics.
It is advisable at the same time as phthalazole to prescribe well-absorbable sulfanilamide preparations (sulfadimezin, ethazole, etazol-sodium, etc.).
