Phthalazolum. 2- (para-Phthalylaminobenzenesulfamido) -thiazole.
Synonyms: Phthalylsulfathiazole, Phthalylsulfathiazolum, Sulfathalidine, Taleudron, Talidine, Talisulfazol, Thalazol, Thalazone, Thalistatyl.
White or white with a slightly yellowish sheen powder. Practically insoluble in water, very slightly soluble in alcohol. Soluble in an aqueous solution of sodium carbonate.
Phthalazole is slowly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The main part of the drug when administered orally is retained in the intestine, where the active (sulfonamide) part of the molecule is gradually eliminated. The resulting high concentration of sulfonamide in the intestines, combined with the activity of the drug against the intestinal flora, explain its greater effectiveness in intestinal infections.
Phthalazole has low toxicity; side effects usually does not cause. By action similar to sulgin.
Applied with dysentery (acute and chronic in the acute stage), colitis, gastroenteritis, as well as with surgical interventions on the intestine to prevent purulent complications.
In the acute form of dysentery, adult patients are prescribed orally for 1–2 days, 6 g per day (every 4 hours, 1 g), and from 3 to 4 days, 4 g per day (every 6 hours, 1 g) , in 5 - 6th day - 3 g per day (every 8 hours 1 g). In the course of treatment only 25 - 30 g.
After the first cycle of treatment (after 5–6 days), the second cycle is carried out: 1–2 day — 1 g every 4 h (at night after 8 h), only 5 g per day, 3–4 day — 1 each g after 4 h (do not give at night), only 4 g per day; Day 5 - 1 g every 4 hours (do not give at night), only 3 grams per day. During the second cycle, a total dose of 21 g; in case of mild disease, the dose for the second cycle can be reduced to 18 g.
The highest doses for adults inside - single 2 g, daily 7 g.
Phthalazole is prescribed to children in smaller doses: up to 3 years - up to 0.2 g / kg per day; The daily dose is given in three equal parts during the day, without disturbing the night’s sleep. In this dose, the drug is given within 7 days. Children older than 3 years prescribed 0.4 - 0.75 g (depending on age) to take 4 times a day.
When treating other infections, phthalazole is prescribed to adults in the first 2 to 3 days, 1 to 2 g every 4 to 6 hours, and in the next 2 to 3 days, half doses.
Children are prescribed on the 1st day at 0.1 g / kg per day. The drug is given in equal doses every 4 hours with a break for the night. In the following days give 0.2-0.5 g every 6-8 hours.
Phthalazole treatment, if necessary, combined with the appointment of antibiotics.
It is advisable simultaneously with phthalazole also appoint well-absorbed sulfa drugs (sulfadimezin, etazol, etazol-sodium, etc.).
