Phthazinum. 3-Methoxy-6- (N 4-phthalylsulfanylamido) -pyridazine.

White or white with a slightly yellowish tinge crystalline powder odorless. Almost nerastvorim in water and alcohol. Easily soluble in solutions of alkali and sodium bicarbonate.

According to its chemical structure, phytazine is close to, on the one hand, to phthalazole, on the other hand to sulfapyridazine, on the antibacterial spectrum to sulfapyridazine. Due to the slow cleavage of free sulfapiridazine and the continued high concentration of sulfapiridazine in the intestine, the drug is effective in treating intestinal infections.

Phytazine is better than phthalazole, absorbed from the intestine and has not only an effect in the intestines, but also a general - resorptive effect. In the blood of patients taking phytazine, there is a significant concentration of sulfapiridazine, which is important in severe forms of dysentery, accompanied by a general intoxication of the body.

Apply phytazine in the treatment of dysentery, enterocolitis, colitis.

Adults on the first day appoint 1 g 1 - 2 times a day, in the following days - 0.5 g per reception 2 times a day. In severe forms of dysentery, 1 g 3 times is prescribed on the first day, 1 g 2 times a day in the following days. Children dose reduced according to age. The course of treatment lasts 5 - 7 days, if necessary, repeat the treatment after 4 - 5 days.

Phytazine, as well as phthalazole and sulgin, are prescribed together with antibiotics if necessary.

Phytazin is usually well tolerated. In some cases, side effects may occur (dyspepsia, skin rash, etc.); With the expressed side effects the drug is canceled.

The drug is contraindicated in the presence of anamnesis data on severe toxic-allergic reactions when taking sulfanilamide drugs.
