Description medication: Sulfasalazine (Sulfasalazine)

Sulfasalazine (Sulfasalazine). 4- [pyridyl- (2) -amidosulfonil] -3 -oksiazobenzol -4-carboxy or 5-para- [N - (2-pyridyl) - sulfamido] -fenilazosalitsilovaya acid.

Synonyms: salazosulfapiridina, SAS 500, Asulfidine, Azopyrine, Salazopyridin, Salazopyrin, Salazosulfapyridine, Salicylazosulfapyridin, Salisulf, SAS 500, Sulfasalazin, Sulphasalazine.

On chemical structure is an azo compound sulfapyridine (Sulfidine) with salicylic acid.

The drug has antibacterial action against diplococci, streptococci, gonococci, Escherichia coli. A feature of the drug is that it has a pronounced therapeutic effect in patients with ulcerative colitis. The mechanism of action is not fully understood. It plays a role in the ability of the drug to accumulate connective tissue (including intestinal tissue) and gradually separate 5 - aminosalicylic acid (Mesalazine cm.) And sulfapyridine, have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. This same mechanism of action appears to underlie the therapeutic efficacy of ulcerative colitis and salazopiridazina salazodimetoksina.

The main indication for the use salazosulfapiridina (as salazopiridazina and salazodimetoksina) is ulcerative colitis.

Recommended 1st day adult of 1 tablet (0.5 g), 4 times a day (at equal intervals) during day 2 - 2 tablets four times and the days when good tolerability for 3 - 4 tablet 4 times a day.
