Description medications: furadonin (Furadoninum)

Furadonin (Furadoninum).

N- (5-Nitro-2-furfurylidene) -1-aminogidantoin.

Synonyms: nitrofurantoin, Chemiofuran, Furadantin, Furina, Nifurantin , Nitrofurantoin, Nitrofurantoinum.

Yellow or orange yellow crystalline powder with a bitter taste. Practically insoluble in water and alcohol.

It acts on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (staphylococcus, streptococcus, E. coli, agents of typhoid, paratyphoid, dysentery, various strains of Proteus).

The drug is effective in the treatment of infectious diseases of the urinary tract.

Indications: pyelitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis. It is also used to prevent infections in urologic surgery, cystoscopy, catheterization, etc.

Assign into adults and 0.1 - 0.15 g 3 - 4 times a day, a course of treatment 5 - 8 days.

If no effect during this period to continue treatment impractical.

Higher doses for adults inside: single 0.3 g daily 0.6 g

Doses for children - usually at the rate of 5 - 8 mg / kg per day (in 3 - 4 divided doses).

In some cases, possible loss of appetite, nausea, heartburn, sometimes vomiting, and allergic reactions. To prevent these phenomena furadonin recommended to drink plenty of fluids.

In case of side effects, the dose should be reduced and set antihistamines, vitamins (nicotinic acid, thiamine bromide).

Indications are the same as for Furazolin.

In the treatment of patients with urinary tract infections should not be administered furadonin (and other nitrofurans) simultaneously with the nalidixic acid (Blacks - cm.) Since this reduces the antibacterial effect.

Product: pills to 0.05 g tablets furadonina soluble in the intestine, 0.1 g (Tabulettae Furadonini 0,1 enterosolubiles) yellow tablets of orange or greenish white with Valium (20 pieces per pack); tablets soluble in the intestine, at 0.03 g for children (Tabulettae Furadonini 0,03 enterosolubiles pro inlantibus).
