Medication Description: Streptosaluzid (Streptosaluzidum)
Streptomycin salt of 2-carboxy-3, 4-dimethoxybenzal-isonicotinoylhydrazone (see Saluzid).
Available as monosulfate.
Porous hygroscopic mass of yellow, bitter taste, no odor.
Easily soluble in water, practically insoluble in alcohol; pH of aqueous solution 5, 6 - 7, 0.
The drug has antibacterial activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis sensitive to streptomycin and preparations of the isoniazid group.
Used intramuscularly, intratracheally and inhalation.
Solutions for intramuscular injections are prepared under aseptic conditions immediately before use. In a bottle with the drug injected 2% solution of novocaine - 1 ml per 0.5 g of streptosalyuzid. The average daily dose for adults is 1 g. On the first day they give 0.5 g; with good tolerance, the dose is increased to 1 g (once or 0.5 g 2 times a day).
Children are given lower doses in accordance with their age and body weight.
The solution of streptosalyuzid should be used in the first hour after preparation.
For intratracheal administration for tuberculous lesions of the bronchi and larynx, dissolve 0.5 g of the drug in 2 ml, and for inhalation in 3-5 ml of isotonic sodium chloride solution.
When using the drug can be observed the same side effects as in the appointment of streptomycin and preparations of the isoniazid group.
