DIAFENYLSULFON (Diaphenylsulfonum). 4, 4'-Diaminodiphenylsulfone.

Synonyms: Avlosulfon, Dapsone, Dapsonum, DDS, Diphenason, Dumitone, Eporal, Novophone, Sulfonmere and others.

White or creamy white crystalline powder. Almost nerastvorim in water, it is difficult soluble in alcohol.

Has an antibacterial effect against mycobacteria leprosy and tuberculosis.

It is one of the main drugs for the treatment of leprosy.

Assign inside the cycles of 4 to 5 weeks with a one-day break every 6 days. During the cycle in the first 2 weeks, take up to 0.05 g (50 mg) 2 times a day, in the next 3 weeks - 0.1 g 2 times a day. Then a 2-week break, after which the second cycle is carried out according to the same scheme. The course of treatment consists of 4 such cycles. After the fourth cycle, take a break for 1 - 1, 5 months. Treatment is long.

Diphenylsulfone is also proposed for the treatment of patients with herpetiform dermatitis of Dühring. Assign inside 0.05-0.1 g 2 times a day in cycles of 5 to 6 days with a break for 1 day, only 3 - 5 cycles or more. After the disappearance of clinical manifestations of the disease, the drug is given in maintenance doses: 0.05 g (50 mg) every other day or 1-2 times a week.

With the use of diaphenylsulfone, side effects are possible: general weakness, decreased appetite, dyspepsia, dizziness, headache, palpitation, pain in the heart; In some cases, there are cyanosis, symptoms of toxic hepatitis, anemia.

With the development of adverse reactions, reduce the dose or temporarily stop taking the drug. With persistent anemia, dysfunctions of the liver and kidneys of diaphenylsulfone are canceled.

Contraindications: liver, kidney, anemia. Before and during the treatment, it is necessary to systematically carry out blood and urine tests, to investigate the functional state of the liver.

Diphenylsulfone (and saltus sulfone) can not be taken concurrently with amidopyrine and barbiturates.

To prevent and reduce side effects, it is recommended to prescribe vitamins, iron preparations.
