REMANTADIN (Remantadinum). a - Methyl-1-adamantyl-methylamine hydrochloride.

White crystalline powder, bitter in taste. Soluble in alcohol, difficult in water.
Remantadine is a derivative of amantadine, or midantane (see), used as an anti-Parkinsonian drug, and which is at the same time a specific chemotherapeutic drug; it has a prophylactic effect against influenza infection caused by certain strains of viruses (type A2).
Remantadine, in comparison with midantan, has a more pronounced antiviral activity. It is effective against various influenza A viruses; and also has an antitoxic effect in influenza; caused by the virus B. Like midantan, it is not effective in other acute respiratory viral infections.
Remantadine is used for the early treatment and prevention of influenza and the period of epidemics.
The drug is especially effective for influenza infection caused by type A2 virus.
Remantadine is taken orally (after eating), washed down with water as follows: adults are given 100 mg (2 tablets) 3 times on the 1st day of illness; on the 2nd and 3rd days - 100 mg 2 times; on the 4th day - 100 mg 1 time. On the 1st day of the disease, you can take the drug once in a dose of Z00 mg (6 tablets).
Children from 7 to 10 years old are prescribed 50 mg (1 tablet) 2 times a day; 11-14 years old - 50 mg 3 times a day. Accepted within 5 days.
For the prevention of influenza, 0.05 g (50 mg) is prescribed once a day daily for 10 to 15 days, depending on the focal point of the infection.
Remantadine is generally well tolerated. In some cases, pain in the stomach is possible.
Contraindications: acute liver and kidney diseases, pregnancy, thyrotoxicosis.
Release form: tablets of 0.05 g (50 mg) in a package of 20 pieces.
