The spectrum of the action of hingamine is not limited to the effect on malarial plasmodium. It has a retarding effect on the synthesis of nucleic acids, the activity of certain enzymes, and immunological processes. The drug is widely used in the treatment of collagen diseases (diffuse connective tissue diseases): systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma and especially rheumatoid arthritis, in which it is considered as one of the basic drugs.

The drug has antiarrhythmic activity; In patients with extrasystole and paroxysmal form of atrial fibrillation contributes to the restoration of sinus rhythm. By the nature of the action refers to the antiarrhythmics of group I.

In the treatment of malaria prescribe hingamin inside (after eating) adults at 2, 0 - 2, 5 g per course of treatment. At the first reception give 1 g (4 tablets of 0.25 g), after 6 - 8 hours - 0.5 g, on the 2 nd and 3 rd days - 0.5 g in 1 reception. Additionally, 0.5 g of hingamine is prescribed on the first day of treatment, mainly with tropical malaria. With tropical malaria treatment can last for 5 days; On the 4 th and 5 th days give 0.5 g in 1 reception.

Higher doses for adults with oral administration: single 0.5 g, daily 1, 5 g (at the first reception is usually prescribed hingamin in a dose exceeding the highest single prescribed by the State Pharmacopoeia).

Usually the drug is taken orally, but with malignant malaria, treatment is started with intramuscular injection. Single dose for an adult 10 ml of a 5% solution; If necessary, repeat the injection with an interval of 6-8 hours, but no more than 3 times (not more than 30 ml).

Intravenously administered only in especially severe cases: 10 ml of 5% solution is diluted in 10 - 20 ml of 40% glucose solution or isotonic sodium chloride solution. Enter the vein slowly.

Children are given intramuscular injections only when absolutely necessary; The daily dose should not exceed 8, 3 mg (5 mg of the drug base) per 1 kg of body weight; Administered in 2 divided doses at intervals of several hours.
