Description of the medicine: Terbinafine

TERBINAFIN (Terbinafine). (E) -N- (6,6-Dimethyl-2-hepten-4-ynyl) -N-methyl-1-naphthalenemethanamine.

Produced in the form of hydrochloride.

Synonyms: Lamisil, Lamizyl (name of the drug company "SANDOZ").

Antifungal preparation for oral and external use. Has a wide range of antifungal activity. It has a fungicidal effect on dermatomycetes, mold fungi and some dimorphic fungi. The mechanism of action is associated with the suppression of sterol biosynthesis in the cell membrane of the fungus.

With topical application (in the form of a cream), the drug is little absorbed and has a minor systemic effect. When administered orally (in the form of tablets), the maximum concentration in the blood plasma is observed within 2 hours; The drug binds firmly to plasma proteins.

The drug diffuses rapidly through the skin and accumulates in the sebaceous glands. It is excreted with sebum, while relatively high concentrations in the hair follicles and hair are created. Within a few weeks after the beginning of the application, it also penetrates the nail plates.

Inside apply terbinafine (in the form of tablets) with fungal skin lesions caused by dermatomycetes (trichophytosis, microsporia), with yeast infections of the skin, fungal nail lesions (onychomycosis). Terbinafine is also used to treat pityriasis (multicolored) lichen.

Assign adults inside at a dose of 0.125 g (125 mg) 2 times a day or 0.25 g once a day (regardless of time of eating). The duration of treatment depends on the indications and severity of the infection. Usually the duration of treatment of skin lesions is, 2 - 4 weeks, nail lesions - from 6 weeks to 4 months (sometimes longer).

The drug is usually well tolerated. In some cases, possible dyspepsia, skin allergic reactions.

Terbinafine should not be prescribed during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as children (due to lack of sufficient data). In elderly patients there may be violations of the liver and kidneys.

The cream of terbinafine (lamizil) is used externally for fungal skin lesions caused by dermatomycetes, with yeast infections of the skin (candidiasis), lichen (pungent or multicolored). The cream is applied a thin layer on the affected surfaces and adjacent areas 1-2 times a day, lightly rubbed.

Applied depending on the severity of the lesion and the efficacy for 1 - 2 - 4 honey. Usually, the healing effect is noted in the first few days.

The cream is well tolerated. In some cases, there is hyperemia, itching, burning sensation, usually not requiring discontinuation of treatment.

Forms of release: tablets containing 0.125 or 0.25 g of terbinafine (hydrochloride); 1% ointment in tubes.

Storage: the tablets are stored in a dark place.
