Description of the medicine: Doxylamine (Doxylamine)

Doxylamine (Doxylamine).

2- [a [2- (Dimethylamino) ethoxy] -a-methylbenzyl] pyridine.

Produced in the form of succinate.

According to the chemical structure and action, it is close to dimedrol and some other H1-histamine receptor blockers, which, together with the antiallergic effect, is accompanied by sedative-hypnotic activity, which they consider to be undesirable side effects that hamper their use in some contingents of patients (transport drivers, operators and etc.). In doxylamine, the sedative-hypnotic effect is more pronounced than in the closely related "conventional" antihistamines (comparable to that of barbiturates), and is therefore specifically used as a hypnotic drug (first generation).

Like other H1-histamine receptor blockers, doxylamine has m-cholinolytic activity.
