HYDROXYZINE (Hydroxyzine).

2- [2- [4-p-Chloro-A-phenylbenzyl] -1-piperazinyl] ethoxy] ethanol.

Produced in the form of hydrochloride.

Hydroxysin was one of the first blockers of H1-histamine receptors. At the same time, it has a sedative and anxiolytic effect; Has m-cholinolytic and antiemetic properties.

The chemical structure is close to some modern antihistamines (see Cetirizine), but as an antihistaminic (antiallergic) drug is currently not widely used, and began to be used as a relatively "soft" tranquilizer.

When taken orally absorbed quickly, Cmax is 2 h, T _S - 12-24 h.

Indications for use in general are increased excitability, stress, a sense of fear, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, premedication. It is also used (in connection with antihistaminic activity) for itching dermatoses.

There are data on the effectiveness of hydroxyzine in cardio-neurotic disorders.

Inside, adults are prescribed 0.01 or 0.025 g (10 or 25 mg) in a total daily dose of 0.025-0.1 g (25-100 mg), and, if necessary, up to 0.3 g per day; Children are administered at a rate of 1 mg / kg per day (in several doses). Applied usually within 4 weeks. In anaesthesiology appoint 0.1-0.2 g before bedtime on the eve of surgery.

In cases of acute excitation, intramuscular injection is possible (2 ml of a 5% solution - 0.1 g).

When the drug is used, somnolence, general weakness, dizziness, dry mouth and other side effects are sometimes noted.

The drug is contraindicated in renal and hepatic insufficiency, porphyria, the danger of glaucoma attacks, prostatic hypertrophy (due to anticholinergic properties of the drug), pregnancy, breast-feeding.

Forms of release: tablets of 0.01 and 0.025 g (10 and 25 mg) (N. 25); 0.2% syrup in bottles of 200 ml; 5% solution in ampoules of 2 ml (0.1 g).
