Paroxetine.

By the mechanism of action is close to fluoxetine (see) and sertraline (see).

Refers to "balanced" antidepressants with predominance of anxiolytic and sedative properties.

Fully absorbed from the digestive tract, Cmax is 5 h, T1 / 2 - 21 h; Is subjected to intensive biotransformation in the liver, excreted mainly with urine and partly with feces.

Applied for the treatment of severe depressive disorders.

High efficacy of the drug in panic and obsessive-impulsive disorders was noted.

Assign inside as tablets. The usual dose for adults is 0.02 g (20 mg) once a day (usually taken in the morning). If necessary and well tolerated, increase it by 0.01 g (10 mg) at intervals of 1 week to a maximum dose of 0.05 g (50 mg) per day (elderly people to 0.04 g per day).

Possible side effects, contraindications and precautions are basically the same as for fluoxetine and sertraline.

Incompatible with MAO inhibitors (it is necessary to observe a 2-week break), increases bleeding while taking with indirect anticoagulants and the effects of alcohol; Inducers of microsomal oxidation (barbiturates, diphenine) are reduced, and inhibitors (cimetidine) increase the concentration of paroxetine in the blood.

It is recommended to reduce the dose of the drug when used in combination with other antidepressants, phenothiazine derivatives, class I antiarrhythmics.

With caution appoint persons engaged in potentially hazardous activities that require increased attention and speed of reactions.
