Description of the medicine: Tropicamide (Tropicamide)

TROPICAMIDE (Tropicamide).

N-Ethyl-2-phenyl-N- (4-pyridylmethyl) hydracrylamide.

Synonyms: Midratsil, Midrum, Mydriacyl, Mydrum.

Has m-cholinolytic activity. From other anticholinergic agents (atropine, etc.) is characterized by rapid development of mydriasis and a relatively short-term action. The dilatation of the pupil is observed after 5-10 min after instillation into the conjunctival sac of the drug solution. Maximal mydriasis and cycloplegia are noted in 20-45 min; Duration 1-2 hours.

It is used in ophthalmology for diagnostic purposes, when it is necessary to cause mydriasis and cycloplegia, including when examining the fundus and determining refraction. They are also used for inflammatory processes and eye adhesions.

For the examination of the fundus, 1-2 drops of 0.5% solution are instilled for 15-20 minutes before the procedure, to determine the refraction - 1-2 drops of 1% solution twice with an interval of 5 minutes. If necessary, add 1 drop in 20-30 minutes in addition.

Possible side reactions: paresis of accommodation, increased intraocular pressure, photophobia.

When high doses are used, systemic side effects (excitation, headache, tachycardia, arterial hypotension, dry mouth, dysuria) are likely.

The drug is contraindicated in glaucoma (especially closed-angle).

Form release: 0,5% and 1% solutions in bottles-droppers of 15 ml.
